A faulty water meter was replaced yesterday and today I noticed the washing machine is filling very slowly, I saw some specs in the washing machine conditioning drawer and the kitchen tap is dripping when fully closed.

I've put two and two together and believe some crap has gone in to the main line and caused these issues.

Who reckons the water company are liable to fixing this?

The washing machine has a filter on the inlet of the valves. Easy to clean!

You can argue that its their responsibility. May not get you far though.

Someone had constant sand in his supply after main in street was replaced. He ended up spending £2000 for a new service pipe to his flat.

The correct procedure is to run the cold tap for 10 minutes after work on the supply to enable any dirt to be washed through.

I rarely hear of anyone being told to do that though

I ran the cold tap at full blast for 10 seconds and amount of crud that came out was alarming.

Forgot the hose had a filter. I took it off and it was 90% blocked, things looking ok now.

You need to run the cold tap for many minutes to ensure all loose dirt has been washed out.
