i am replacing old imperial rads with metric . The rads we are replacing them with are 4cm longer. Is there a adapter we can use to make this 4cm up

Not specifically. You will have to either:
1. Re-drill floorboards and bring pipes up, say, 20mm further out from radiator each side. OR
2. Bend / use fittings, to bring existing pipes out.
Don't forget the centres of the pipes where they enter the radiator valves may be further off the wall than the existing ones, so you may have additional pipe manipulation to do.
Do not be tempted to use flexible hoses - they can't take the temperature and will fail quite quickly.
An easier solution, provided you can get the heat output you need, is to use radiators less wide than the existing ones, and use radiator valve extension pieces (see https://www.toolstation.com/shop/He...Valves/sd2762/Radiator+Valve+Extension/p37352) to make up the distance. You may still have issues with distance from wall.

Normally you would alter pipework under floor if accessible/located there. Other than that as the new rad is longer than the old one, you will have to alter the tails by probably adding a couple elbows at at least one tail or both.

Other than draining off and re piping no. Easy option is to go for a 1600 and use chrome extensions either side, looks abit of a dogs dinner though imho.
