The pump in my central heating needs replacing, the Corgi registered plumber who diagnosed this as the problem quoted me £550 plus VAT to replace it. He wanted to replace the valves connecting it in the process (he couldnt guarantee the old ones wouldnt leak afterwards) and this requiired draining the system. The high price he put down to the fact that the pump was difficult to get to and so the job take about 4 hrs. On reflextion I want to know if anyone has any advice about replacing the pump and valves is necessary, is it a complicated job or does the quote seem reasonable ?

Any help would be great

Thanks

If the pump is in a difficult place to get to, it might be an idea to consider having it re-sighted. If you can get to it, it is not difficult to replace the pump only.
I think I would be inclined to replace the pump only, it the valves leak be prepared to drain down & replace...BUT BE PREPARED & he might still charge you the same.
