My mum's house has a loose brick on the corner that can be removed by hand.

I'm not gonna get a builder in to replace 1 brick.

Can I just butter the brick with the appropriate mortar and slide it back in?

What is the appropriate mortar to use and since it is only 1 brick is there a ready-to-use product I can use.

Here is a picture of the wall although not the area with the loose brick.

Will I need some kind of 'squirt-device' to ensure the area around the loose brick is adequately filled with mortar.

Cheers!

Wet the surrounding bricks and the brick itself.

You need a good trowel full of mortar i.e. building sand and cement at 4 or 5:1. A spot of fairy will help in the mix too.

Butter the surrounding bricks and it helps to thinly butter the actual brick to be laid also as this helps with cohesion.

It is then a case of feeding the brick in whilst pushing in mortar as you go.

Then point up. If it is a solid wall, then the trick is not pushing too much mortar to the back thus preventing the brick from seating all the way home.
