My digital timer (Potterton EP2001) is woeful, and only allows me two on/off's per day.

I want to replace it - preferably with a mechanical timer as I have always had these in the past and love being able to turn it on/off as often as we want throughout the day.

Is it possible to replace just the front unit with little work - dont want to spoil the plastering etc as just done recently?

If so, presumably with a Potterton, but which model?

Also is mechanical the way to go, or do some digital offer that level of flexibility too?

Cheers

Most you will get from a potterton that will fit in same position as your present one is 3 times a day, so its a case of searching to find something same size and with mechanical , not many about try graslin?

Thanks - much appreciated.

Would it be easier just to replace the whole unit with a random mechanical one?

Novice in relation to central heating - would it be straightforward as I am not going near the boiler (Insert joke about my wife here..........) and just the timer.

depending on why you would like to put your timer on more than twice a day here is an easy cheap idea for you to think about, get a mechanicle timer the type you plug into a socket, plug it in then plug in your boiler supply plug into it and put your ep2001 on constant, sorted.

Potterton EPs come withg a backplate with 5 parking terminals. They can be used as a wiring centre for the whole system.

Have a look at the wallplate before buying a non Potterton unit as you could be making yourself a lot of work moving all the other cables.
