I have a staircase which goes straight up, then turns 90 degrees right for the top 3 steps. The tread on the 2nd one of these 3 has broken.
The triangular shape of the tread makes it impossible to get out (without cutting) so hence makes putting a new one in. I have no access from below due to a new ceiling (which was put in about a month before the stair went!!)
Any ideas how to put a strengthening plate in without major increase to the height of the stair? or how to replace it. Am not sure how the risers are joined, and dont really want to try to find out, unless I know how to replace the tread.
Would be really appreciative of any advice. Am ok with decorating and pretty good at getting things to work. I suspect I might have to destroy the new ceiling, but would prefer not to.
Thanks a lot for reading.
