Replacing a stop cock

In my new house I have found the stopcock to be imbedded behind plaster with just the t-bar showing. When I turn the stopcock off it leaks a fair amount of water. Should I try to repair or replace? If so what advise would you give and how easy is it to replace a stopcock???

depends where it is leaking from it may just be its washer wants replacing, but you will not know till you get it out.

If it leaks when you turn it off it sounds like its leaking from the gland nut, this is very common. If the stopcock looks like its in poor condition then replace it, if not then some ptfe tape around the thread of the gland nut will sort it.
