Replacing Flash Immermat Thermostat with Tado V3+?

Hi there!

I have karosene burner outside in the shed and copper boiler upstairs like in many Irish homes. Would it work?

That depends. First of all I believe that the Immermat is only a simple on/off timer and not a thermostat.

Assuming that is the case, if the Immermat timer is controlling the hot water heating, and the central heating, then it's not ideal to swap for Tado. (Or any other smart thermostat) The reason being is that if it is just a timeswitch, then presently the timer switches 'on' and heats the hot water and central heating. If you fitted a Tado then when the house got warm, the Tado will switch the kerosene burner off which would then stop heating the hot water as well.

Also, you may have to consider the current rating of the device. The Immermat will probably have a 13A switch rating [designed for switching an electric immersion heater] the Tado I suspect will only be 3A. If that's sufficient for your kerosene burner I don't know.

Basically, all I want to achieve is to turn on my heater from upstairs (the Immermat is downstairs), ideally using my phone or a remote. I’m looking for something that would work wirelessly.
Is there any option to do that?

For a definitive answer you need to provide more details of your system. If the Immermat timer is controlling the hot water heating, and the central heating just with on/off functions and you have no other controls, there is not really much you can do without modification to the existing plumbing system, or a rewire.
