Hi,

I have just ordered some replacement discs as the MOT is due and I got a warning last time.
The Haynes Manual says its relatively easy. Although removing the spring washers will be a pain (it always is).
Any tips or pitfalls to avoid?

Thanks

Mike

What year?? If its pre 2006 then front discs are simple! 2 6mm allen key slide bolts to remove the caliper then the discs just often fall off (after the spring retaining washer has been removed), no where near as troublesome as Mondeo discs

Thanks Kingboy

It's 2002 model 1.6 hatch. Will be tackling the job on Thurday.

Thanks Mike

As above - dead easy! Just polish the hub up with fine emery paper once you've got the discs off and apply a thin spray of 'Coppaslip' grease before you put the new ones on. Obviously, fit new pads too. Cheers John

Ordered brake discs from www.JustPartsBiz.co.uk on Sunday afternoon arrived Tuesday. They were Mintex. Total cost including VAT and postage £47. Fitted them Thursday morning in about 3 hours.
There were no retaining springs on the discs and the left front came off no problem. The right was a little corroded but was persuaded with a rubber hammer. Well pleased!

As a footnote. I checked with the local Ford dealer and their discs were £68. Which wasn’t bad. I thought they would be well over £100. The Ford assistant asked if I had Alloy wheels (which I have) and then explained that the discs were identical and same price but they had different coatings for Steel or Alloy wheels.
Can anyone comment on this?

Cheers

Mike

some of them probably have a zinc coating on them, which can react with the aluminium on the wheels and tarnish them. Nothing to lose any sleep over though!

l flnd that alu and steel don't get on well together, at a guess, l would say the car wlth alloy wheels would have the treated dlscs, sometlmes the wheel stlcks to the car Llke shlt
