Hello All,

Newcomer to here and so forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place. I have a woodworm damaged piece of joist and would like to replace it. It is a ceiling joist in a bungalow, 6*2 in size.

Can I just cut it out and insert a new piece using joining plates? Or what is the best way?

Will support from above be enough while this is being done or will they need propped from below?

Thanks
Andrew

If you have evidence of woodworm in one joist it is worth checking the rest and get the joists treated before doing anyhting else.

Would be difficult to remove it without damaging the ceiling. Might be easier to cut out the bad section and use timber joist on each side with nut/bolts. Any chance of a photo?

Thanks for your replys, I will try and get a photo tonight. Any ideas how much a 50m2 loft would cost to treat for woodworm using a reputable contractor? :D

Thanks
Andrew
