I am looking for some advice for my six year old kitchen. It came with my shared ownership newbuild. I had no choice in what kitchen I got.
It is really bland and slowly starting to show signs of age. A couple of cupboards are warping on the edges and I noticed this evening that one of the joins between the laminate worktop is not flat anymore, hard to photograph it but water has clearly got inbetween the two worktops. Not massively obvious, but only going to get worse over time.
The kitchen is a small U shaped one, 3m x 2.2m.
Can anyone suggest to me the best way forward. It is looking like I would need to replace the laminate worktops due to the warping in one of the joins. A couple of cupboard doors are warped. I had thought about painting the units up and changing the worktop but not sure if I could get exact replacment doors. The units are solid, just the doors and joins in worktop. I don't think the finish would look great if I just painted over the units, and replacement doors would not work as the units are coloured brown on the sides and inside.
I had made contact with Howden's but they need to send someone out first to measure up etc and I can imagine this might be costly.
Just wondering what other forum users think would be the best way forward and roughly a guide on costs for South East prices.
If I were to have the kitchen redone by the likes of Howdens, I think I would prefer to move the oven and put it hip hight with a built in microwave above where the current food larder is next to the fridge. I think I would keep existing appliances and replace in future when I have more money. Oven has barely been used, washing machine will be replaced soon anyway and fridge has just been replaced. I have also just got quotes for a water softener which will take up a small amount of room in one of the cupboards.
Also the extractor vents nowhere, I would like to get an actual hole through the wall so when cooking, the steam and smoke goes out and not up through the ceiling MVHR vent which is not very effective.
I cannot fault the storage opportunities with this kitchen. For it's size, there is plenty of storage, but the quality of the doors and countertop is not ideal and I hate the brown colour. Would prefer a modern white with terrazzano/marble finish.
Thoughts and advice would be massively appreciated.
Images of the joins in the worktop where the warping has developed - hard to see but it is there and annoying.
