Do any of the plumbers here regard this as a one-man job, or one where an assistant is mandatory?

I've just been fitting a monobloc for someone, and was doing fine until the point of holding the monobloc in place on top of the sink, and reaching down below, behind the half bowl, to tighten the retaining nut & bolt assembly underneath.....

Is it considered bad form to ask the customer for an extra pair of hands at this stage?

Regards, Graham

No, if the customer is a fit female with a short skirt I always ask them to stand over me while I lie underneath in the kitchen cupboard, even if I am only there to service the boiler in the airing cupboard ;)

Whaddya think; tighten up the tap before making the h&c connections, or do the h&c before the final tightening up of tap onto sink surface?

Manufacturer's instructions were 'vague' to say the least....

Also; if you were asking someone into your home to replace the kitchen tap, you'd remove all the dishes from, and empty, the main sink first, wouldn't you...........?

This is a 3 man job.

1 - health and safety and risk assesment officer
2 - mate to hang around with hands in pocket
3 - plumber

I always only lookee, always no touchee, not very proffesional otherwise, never make suggestive comments either, not right to make people uncomfy in their own home.

No offence taken at all, just clarifying, I have a lot of single women customers of all ages who tell me that they feel safe letting me do their work and have the key to their property, they also tell me of other tradesmen who they feel uncomfortable with, some men seem to think any female and particularly single women are fair game, maybe out clubing or socilaising, but NOT when invited into a customers house to quote or carry out work, I think this is highly unproffesional and think it taints the building trade.
To be honest occasionally it is me that feels uncomfortable being in a strange womans bedroom or en-suite looking at or carrying out work, and makes you realise how vunerable YOU the man is if she decided to make false allegations against you  be careful out there guys.

Just want to say thank you to all the contributors to the Forum. I am a retired pensioner living in the hills of Scotland and plumbers are few and far between. Thanks to the advice on this site I have just changed the washers on my monobloc which was costing a fortune in hot water. I am going to purchase another monobloc on my next visit to civilisation and now have the confidence to fit it. Should I now start re-roofing? Many thanks. AnnBarbara.
