Replacing Matki Shower Door Handle

I need to replace a chrome shower door handle (Model No NRXC/1000). It is circular and about 70mm in diameter; it comprises two threaded parts that fit either side of the curved glass door.

Trouble is I can't get the old one off. (I'm assuming it is a combination of lime build up and just being tight.)

Any advice on how to get it off without damaging the door or, what I guess to be a glass insert in the centre of the existing handle that I will need.
