I took a couple of radiators off last week to redecorate. One has gone back on fine but the other I am having trouble with on the non-thermostat side.
I'm not sure if the radiator has just been rehung at a very slight angle and the pipe is coming at it at not quite 90 degrees or if, as it seems like to me, the thread is just gone on the nut on the radiator side. The radiator was fine before I took it off for what it's worth.
The pipe side seems fine to me. I put a blanking nut on it just in case while it was off and that goes on snugly. Is there any way to replace the nut on the radiator? Doesn't seem to be any obvious way. I'm going to see if I can prop the radiator up a few mm on the opposite side so make a very slightly better angle and see if the thread will catch but I have my doubts.
I'm far from an expert on this stuff. Out of the box solutions, telling me I've misdiagnosed the problem, etc. all welcome. I did hold a lighter under the nut for a little bit in case it might expand a bit with heat - it's been pretty cold here. Didn't make a difference. I guess the thing to do would be to find something I could screw into that nut and check if it has a problem with that, same way the blanking nut confirms that the pipe side is fine. Then I could rule out it just being a slight angle. Don't know what I have around I could use, though.
Thanks for any help.
