I'm replacing the old silicone between the worktop and the tiles. I've removed the old silicone and some of the grout has also come away. Should I now fill a fairly deep gap with silicone or should I try and put a layer of grout first - which will be difficult to do, but I could at least try. OR, should I put two layers of silicone, leaving the first to dry before adding the second layer?

I'd fill the areas between tiles with grout, leave to dry, polish off.

If there is big gap between worktop and tile, you could gap fill with sealant, once dry apply again, between worktop and tile, use a sealant spatula to get a neat finish.

How big is the gap.

You could use a backer rod then re-silicone.
