Hi guys, just has an old tiled fireplace replaced, with a modern one which has a smaller hearth.

As a result i now have a piece just in front of the fireplace that has no laminate.
how can i get around this, the nearby pieces of laminate also have chips on them where they used to meet the removed piece, but my only concern is to some how fill this area.

i've thought about just getting a piece of pine would and bonding it over this area.

Its just fractionally larger than a standard size piece of laminate.

Thanks in advance

heeelllooo hemlico

do you know if its click or glue!!!!!!!
if its click type try ands source some more boards if you didnt lay them[before you moved in ]try looking in the attic garage celler wherever the extra board may have been put there is always extra boards left over

you can also try and canabalise the smallest area [eg nick a board from under the stairs]to repair the area

if its beech colour laminate you can also try like ronseal multipurpose pine/natural coloured filler i used this method with reasonable sucsess

if your going to use pine i would do all three edges of the hearth and possibly tone it down to a darker colour

just a few ideas you understand  ;)

thanks for your help mate.

I think i may take the frame option, just make a frame that goes around all 3 edges of the hearth like you said.

Any ideas on what type of wood to use for the frame/border. Obviously not too thick. It has to be relatively thin

Thanks

you can any size you want run up at a propper wood yard

have you got a router!!!!! if so you can get a bit of 2by1[20x45] or 3by 1[20by69mm] router a rebate at the front edge and posibly the back edge to fit firmly mitred at the corners and moulded on the top edges

tell you what mate, you fancy a drive up2 Yorkshire :D

Ill give that ago mate.

well when i put a peice of laminate over the area it covers the gap. Both in length and width.

Its about an inch and a half smaller than the width of a laminate board.
the length is about 4 inches shorter than a laminate board

but the gap is directly infront of the hearth.

so thats 51"-4"= 47" 7.75"-1.5 6.25"

so thats perfect for a bit off 7by1 plained[comes out at 6.75"]

and dont forget when planning the amount of wood you need youve got to add 14" to the front and 7" to each side for the mitre[total 28" if its 7"boards]
