We have recently moved into a 3 bed semi-detached Victorian property with a solid fuel boiler approx 25 yrs old. As we are often away from home for longer than 12hrs at a time this is proving impractical and we are now looking to replace it with something which will run for a little longer!
We had a plumber round the other day who said that he couldn't find anywhere suitable to install an oil boiler as our only external walls are too far from the existing boiler so we suspect our choice is limited to electric or a longer-lasting solid fuel boiler.
Any recommendations gratefully received!

boiler can go in an external boiler house outside or you can get a boiler to go in place of the solid fuel bb.oil boilers can be fanned flued, balanced flue or conventional get a heating person to look at it and advise

No, but the Brasso's "plumber" is, just short of a full load.

Brasso, there are loads of boilers which can go where your existing one is. One problem may be getting an oil supply in.

There are also wood pellet stoves (Google) which need loading every 3 days, though not if running radiators off them.

Thanks for all your replies. sounds like the plumber didn't want the job so we'll see if we can find someone else who can help! We've heard that it's possible to get a combined system where you can run the solid fuel system but have an oil boiler as well which will kick in when the fuel runs out. Has anyone come across this before?
