Going to replace my trouble some drain today and put a rodding point in. It seems that a joint has collapsed as I broke into the clay pipe yesterday and put a rod down and hit solid pipe!:(

A labourer will be doing all the hard stuff like digging etc while I will be overseeing the work.

I have one of these which I will put a branch in for rodding in future but need to know which fitting i need to insert the aluminium eye in and what angle I need to cut the pipe.

I intend to replace as much pipe as possible too probably about 2 metres. Should I bed the pipe on about 3 inches of gravel and then completeley enclose it or is that overkill?

Will 4 bags of gravel do the job and please that nice BCO man?
Thanks

Most rodding eyes are on a 45deg angle, so will need another 45 deg to get onto the horizontal plane, (that junction would be ok). The eye's have 110mm spigots, any fitting will do. Cut the pipe square as normal.

4 bags of gravel wont go far, be warned!

Hi Bahco, got your PM. Can’t remember if there’s any history here; did you post a thread previously on this? Do you have a link to save me looking? What’s going in there? I assume this is a foul drain & not soak away? I can see sink waste but also whet looks like a rainwater pipe, not usually allowed to mix them now; anything else? Is there rodding access from an inspection chamber at the other end? Why have you got a BCI coming in? If it’s straight repair to existing drain then you don’t need inspection but if you do then follow Part H for bedding materials, depths & oversight or they may get difficult.

Depends how big the bags are ;)

Hi Rich. Sorry for late reply. Good to know I don't need BCO.

Its done and only needed to replace 1 metre of pipe. Didn't bother with a rodding point as the gulley is roddable. :D

My poor friend thought it would only be a 2 hr job. He used an angle grinder and large metal rod to get through the concrete which was a nightmare. Kango drill is the way to go next time!.

For anyone that likes drains...............

BTW the old clay pipe was blocked solid with washing pwder /grease and came out in a long piece!
