The lock on a upvc window has disintegrated inside and it's well outside the guarantee so I'm looking at replacing it with a new gearbox and rails. I can't find any products matching the measurements of the one I've just pulled out of it though.

The only markings on it say 9487 GR.3 901-1200. It measures 72cm end to end in the locked position, 50cm between mushrooms (outside edges) and 20mm backset. From what I can tell it's an espagnolette, but it might be inline, I'm not sure how to tell the difference. The casement width is 90cm and there are some corner pieces that hold it in place and move with the lock mechanism that make up the extra width.

Can anyone advise me on how to proceed or what product might suit me? It seems like all the current lock mechanisms are in 10cm increments, and everything's in components, a 90cm casement kit would be ideal but I haven't seen anything like that.

Mechanisms with the GR. markings are made by 'MACO'.

They are cropable to suit sash widths or heights, the 901 is the shortest you can crop it in MM and the 1200 means it'll suit a max sash width/height

How many cams/mushrooms?
Is it a 3 peice system with a centre gearbox with a shootbolt extension either side?

A photo would help and i could trace it, but if not available then look here...

Thanks for the reply :)

2 mushrooms, I guess 3 piece system is right, I can tug the rails out into the locked position.

Looking at the ends it looks like it may have been cropped to fit, it's way under the 901 minimum the numbers suggest though, it's about 720mm in the open (shorter) position. It's obviously a bit of an older style but the casement seems to have plenty of room for the mechanism so I don't think a change there is a problem.

One thing I was a bit confused by was the backset measurement, I've seen it described as being from the underside of the rail to the lock hole and also from the bottom of the mechanism to the lock hole, and they happen to be 20mm and 25mm so both would be possible correct measurements.

Its defo an older espag rod but no matter its dead easy to retro fit a new one, DG Supplyline can easily supply you with one that'll do the job, dead helpfull and the prices are pretty good too, if poss pop in and see them (southend on sea) or forward the pic via email and let them match one up
