Hi,

My girlfriend and I live in a small, 1st floor flat which we own in south London. I'm thinking about having this window replaced with double-glazed as the sitting room is excessively noisy with the traffic outside (see 2 pics below). Here are my questions:

1. is this something I can arrange myself for our flat and our flat only or does it need to be done for the entire building?

2. if I can have it done for our flat only, what kind of ballpark cost figure are we talking about, for both parts and labour? I expect to pay approx £200 for the window. How about labour?

3. the window dimensions are unlike anything which seems "standard" on Screwfix (W1740 X H1450). Is this unusual and will it affect the price of a replacement window?

Thanks.

You own the flat, but do you own the building? If not you will need the landlords' permission to change the window.

You can just do yours, if you have the required permissions

For labour price, get quotes

Yes, non-standard windows cost more than standard ones

Do you pay a maintenance charge for the general upkeep of the building.

If so, the managing body of this money will probably be the best people to enquire whether or not they have got a preferred installer for replacement windows. My point being that you need to have conformity, so the external appearance of the building 'looks the same'. As others may put in differing designs and materials.
