Hi all.
I noticed a couple of small damp patches in my downstairs toilet and after checking the outside wall the mortar had gone in the some of the perps below the DPC. It didn't help that the paving slabs seemed to be sloping slightly towards the wall.
Anyway, I removed the paving slabs and dug down to the foundations just to have a look. It then decided to **** down in true British fashion. As you can see in the photos, in some places the mortar has disintegrated and the bricks are soaking.
My thoughts are to firstly remove a brick at ground level to see if any ****/earth has made its way into the cavity over the years and is bridging the gap between the walls. Secondly repoint the brickwork.
What I dug out was basically clay so I don't know what the best drainage option would be for me once the brickwork is sorted? Just put the paving slabs back but make sure they slope away from the wall?
The house was built in 1963 and I've owned it for just over a year in case that's any use.
Any advice is greatly appreciated as I'm a complete novice with anything like this.
Many thank,
Tony.
