repositioning garage door to allow more room

i am trying to extend the length of my garage for my trans am. i only need 1.5 inches of extra length!!!!

currently the garage door and frame is set back in the garage opening by 3 inches, if i were to remove the existing garage door and frame and have a new one installed which would not be set back, would i require planning permission? as doing this would give me approx 3 inches extra length without any actual extension work being done.

i must add that the garage is an integral part of the house, not an outbuilding

should not be a problem, you will not need to worry about planning or building control as this is not classed as a fire door
