Hi,

We have a Viessmann 222-f boiler which has a fault code '1 18' 'broken frost stat cable'.

We don't have a frost stat and can't clear the code. We've acknowledged it but it keeps returning. Also has the snowflake icon on the display.

Anyone know how to reset it?

Cheers, J

Do you have an outside sensor, for weather compensation?

The 1 means its the first error; the error code is 18, which is a faulty lead to the sensor. The boiler goes into frost mode when that happens, which is why you see the snowflake.

When was boiler installed?

Many have five years warranty if professionally fitted and serviced annually.

The frost protection is normally derived from the internal boiler sensors and not a dedicated component.

It could well be a faulty pcb which are quite expensive and if that was the case then a fixed price repair would usually be cheaper.

Unfortunately, Viessmann, like several manufacturers, effectively "stuff" the independents who fit their boilers by offering fixed price repairs for less than we can buy the parts!

A quick call to Viessmann Tech this afternoon and all sorted. Thanks to Hugh :D .

For some reason the boiler seemed to think an outside temperature sensor had been fitted. The fault code 18 is "Lead break, outside temperature sensor".

Being the constant temperature model it has never had one fitted so not sure why the code was thrown.

It was easily sorted once I'd been told where to look.

Coding level 2 > Group 1 > Address 25 (change value from 1 to 0) Outside temperature sensor.

Hugh used to post here until he was apparently told not to by either this site or by Viess.

He is quite knowledgeable on their boilers.
