Hi my current driveway continues into the garage and consists of concrete of sufficient depth, but not smooth and level, and has some cracks. I have ordered a 4 head concrete grinder from abroad, thinking to sell it afterwards and have an industrial hoover I can connect to it for dust. I know to pressure wash it afterwards, and apply a primer before resin and scatter coat, with possibly a seal coat on top. I am thinking of daltex tru grip 1-3mm for the aggregate. The main purpose is smooth and grippy rolling surface for motorcycles/small car, cosmetics noy particularly important, just want it to work and last. Choice of resin bond/scatter coat is ease of application compared to bound.

My problem is choosing a resin for BOND - the ones I see dont seem to include the UV Resistance of the BOUND/permeable ones.

Please may I ask for advice on a good cost/performance choice for the resin, and any points I may not have thought of? I have read the pavingexpert article on Resin BOND.

Thanks

Graham

I got a quote for that - it went along the lines of, first take the existing concrete up..... that'll be £9K to you sir.

Maybe, but the question was related to whether you should have bound or bonded.

You'll need to post in the finance forum for questions about paying for it.

Thanks Woody - I would like a reccomendation of a good resin bond supplier. The quote I was given was just to establish that they didn't want the job!

The firms doing this type of work are relative niche - specialised equipment, lots of cleaning and consumable costs, lots of wasted days from weather, so the costs are high. There may not be any local firms either, so more costs to get someone interested or even willing to travel

I suspect quotes should be quite similar, with uplifts for the travel or messing about. For this type of work, you should be especially dubious of cheaper quotes and quotes from firms who are not established or experienced. Insurance backed warranties may be useful.

The base prep for the resin is crucial, so there may be additional costs there too.

The actual costs of the materials has come down massively over time, and it has become easier to get for one-off jobs. I used to look at this type of paving 20 years or so ago and loved it, but it was way too expensive. Looked at it again about 7 years ago and it was much less, so I did my drive and paths. Technically it's not that difficult, but prep and speed ......... and white spirit are key.
