Hi all,

I am trying to resolve as many draughts in my house as possible as I'm attempting to tighten my belt when it comes to heating, etc. I have noticed a really bad draught coming from the seal of one of the side panels of my patio doors. Here are a couple of photos:

As you can see the temperature around the seal is about 8 degrees (worst it got was about 7.5), and the rest of the room was about 16 degrees so a massive difference, which is undoubtedly causing the temperature in the whole room to eventually drop.

I was just wondering what options I have to fix the problem? I know I could get someone in to knock the panel out and replace the seal, but we're going to be replacing the entire door possibly in late Spring next year so I was also seeing if anyone had any "quick fix"/cheaper recommendations. Could I just apply silicon sealant to the seal to essentially seal it even more?

Many thanks in advance.

You need to be sure it is cold from cold air, and not cold conduction through the window and frame.

I can feel the draught with my hands, whereas the patio doors and the other side panel don't have that, and are well sealed. So I'm quite confident it's from the air itself. It's a good point though, so much appreciated.

You can feel cold draughts, airflow even if doors and windows properly seal, simply from air hitting a windows, cooling and falling, but...

If there is a definite gap - Might the hinges need adjusting, to snug them up?

Is that an opener, looks like it

Sorry to sound naive, but what do you mean by an "opener"? This panel doesn't open at all - it's a sealed side panel of a patio door. It would need a mallet or something similar to get the glass panel out of the frame. And I don't know if I have the skills or confidence to do that in order to attempt to replace the seal. Which is why I was just trying to see if there were any other ways to deal with it.

I completely get what you're saying - but out of the 2 sealed side panels and the 2 patio doors, this is the only part that has a noticeable drop in temperature and noticeable draught.

Because it is one of the sealed side panels, I don't think there are any hinges on this part. So I'm guessing the only way would be to attempt to take the whole glass panel out with a mallet or something, then replace the seal. But I was just seeing if there was a reasonable quick fix like using silicon sealant, considering I am likely replacing the door within the next 6 months.
