Hi all, currently working on restoring some crazy paving that has been pressure washed to bits…
It’s about 90m^2 of the paving, with some areas worse affected than others. There are some sections of the paving where the pointing is still very much intact but just needs to be ‘levelled out’, but other areas where even just brushing out the pointing and surrounding mud/weed dislodges the flagstones themselves. Some of the gaps opened up by loose flagstones have been a couple metres squared in area! I’ve attached pictures of bits of both areas
My current tactic has been to level out those easier areas (after cleaning out weeds, etc); while for those harder areas I’ve essentially been removing the pointing and the base on which the flagstone lies, removing any loose, old mortar and then more or less repaving, but doing so stone by stone (as opposed to laying a base). These areas that I ‘repave’ are often only 1.5m^2 or so, and I essentially just chisel out mortar until I find neighbouring stones that seem strong enough in their position
Just posting to ask if anyone has any advice?
