Hi everyone,
I've built a deck within a retaining wall which can be found within the projects section
//www.diynot.com/forums/your-projects/bbq-hardwood-decking-area-well-it-is-winter.346641/
The wall has started to get a bit of algae growth with a small amount of mortar falling off in the winter (admittedly the soil was simply backed up against the rear of the wall).
I've given the wall a quick blast with the powerhose and it has come up sparkling again. My question is though will it need something like a french drain at the rear? It's not holding back a great deal of soil so there shouldn't be that much moisture coming into contact with the brick. Would it be sufficient to simply paint with bitumen then add some membrane before backfilling? This would be my preferred option as there is nowhere I can redirect water without it becoming a major project.
