Hi.

I am.new to this forum.and looking for advice.

I am helping a friend with a retaining wall between two garden due to ground level difference. The wall will run from the house to the end of the garden. The wall will be joined to the house wall. I am unsure if I need to put in a vertical damp proof barrier between the house wall and new garden wall. I intend using a wall tie starter kit to join it.

I hope this makes sense any help appreciated

Yes you need to prevent any moisture from the retaining wall and the retinaed ground from contacting the house wall.

Wall starters are not suitable for this purpose, unless its really light load from the retained ground

The wall doesn't need to be tied in just thought it would add more stability. To the wall was thinking that I could build it without tying it in but with a damp proof membrane behind it

Did you make a decision on this? I've got the same situation, 1.2m retaining wall butting up against an attached garage wall. I just read an engineers forum and everyone have a big thumbs down to doing this at all.
