Retractable awning

My project is to install a retractable awning onto an uneven stone wall.

Would it be better to fix the metal end brackets direct to the wall or fix a length of timber to the wall and then fix brackets to that, or even justify two timber panels either end and then brackets fixed to them.

The through bolts provided are 6 x M14.
Also what type of bits should be used…..diamond tipped twist, diamond core, or TCT bits
Should hammer mode be used?

It looks like limestone to me which probably means the surface is not flat across the length of where the blind will go and may catch when it is rolled up. So I think I would add some sort of spacer to each bracket so that they stand off and allow plenty of clearance. I would not use wood as that will rot over time, perhaps aluminium or some sort of plastic. I think you may need an SDS drill to make holes for suitable fixings but just ordinary TCT bits should be ok though. You will have to measure carefully to ensure you fix into stone and not mortar.
