Im in the middle of a loft conversion Im trying to do as much of this work myself. I know the jobs that need to be done by the experts and I will have a go at the rest of them.
The work so far has been passed by the BC officer and the drawings where passed also.
When I 1st started I lowered the celings using floor joists and then removed the old loft floor (Dirty job) I have been told I need to retriangulate my roof. I fixed face plates to the existing wall and ran joists from floor hangers the floor is only lowered by about 1 foot but it all counts.
The thing I need to know is whilst the old loft floor and the roof rafters matched up the new ones are at different spans so the dont all match up which makes it hard to fit the steel bars that connect from the roof rafters to the floor. I have seen a product called builders band which is more flexible and would easily do the job. Is this kind of stuff adequate to do the job or is there something similar that would work.
The other question is how far from the wall would I need to connect these to the floor is there a formular? The BC officer was a bit vague.
Thanks.
