Hi All,

I wanted to find out if it is possible to retrofit trickle vents on aluminium windows with wooden frames? Please see attached pictures of the window from the inside and outside. I wonder if this type of window can have trickle vents retro-fitted and if there is space for this to be done?

This is an 1930s 3-bedroom terraced house which is rented out. There is quite poor ventilation with lots of mould around the window on the first floor bedroom (mould was removed and painted over before taking photo). There is severe condensation on the window glass.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

I'm not sure if you could do but fitting trickle vents will not only damage them but it won't help much with condensation and black mould.

o). There is severe condensation on the window glass.
That's just telling you that the windows are working as they should. You need to reduce humidity. Find out what the cause of the condensation is.

Typical of tenants, I see it daily, they need to ventilate by opening windows front and back for an hour in the mornings to purge the humid moisture laden air that they've created overnight by breathing, I bet they dry clothes over radiators or don't ventilate when cooking or showering, or maybe an over abundance of plants, yes your windows are rubbish by today's standards but even spending big money on A+++ rated windows may not make any difference if they have a humidity factory going on, put a dehumidifier in and show them the water it sucks out of the air and tell em they're creating that moisture

The mould directly above the window also indicates cold bridging and the possibility of little to no insulation above the ceiling of the bay.
