ridge board extension

hi could anyone tell me what joint is used to extended the roof ridge board. I ask this question because the timber is not long enought in one lenght so I need to joint it so any info or picture or links would be great

use a scarf joint, like this,

You would normally use a scarf (scaph) joint, the one shown in the image above is okay, but really you want an interlocking joint like this one
