I'm intending to remove the ceiling on the top floor of my house, in order to open up the room to the currently un-insulated attic. At the moment there are gaps between the eaves and the walls, which I presume are soffit vents, but there are no ridge vents, presumably because the air can flow into the attic one side of the house and out of the other. I intend to put insulation between the rafters, leaving the recommended 5cm gap, and leave a small triangular void at the apex of the roof. Consequently air could theoretically flow from one soffit vent to the other. Do I need a ridge vent in this circumstance? Thanks a lot

I'm not being funny but do you know what you are doing because the ceiling joists is part of the roof structure which hold the wallplates together etc. I can't tell you without looking at it unless you have some photo's.
