Going back to Victorian times, and slated roofs, what would have been used to cover the ridge?

And what material? I have a friend with me who has an 1850's building and is thinking about getting an original appearance.

tks

Dark grey plain angle ridge was the norm, sometimes roll-top ridge and sometimes red feature ridge (2 hole crested, fleur-de-lys etc)

Is that a fired clay thing? Like a Staffordshire brick?

yes it is. a lot of the earlier pitched ridge have a make up similar to the earlier staffy blue brick. they would typically interlock with a raised female end, into which the mortar joint would be bedded.
