Hi all,

A simple question I hope:

Building Regs state that where drainage pipes pass through my wall the opening must be protected by "Rigid Sheet Material" to prevent entry of back fill. vermin etc. What is the best stuff to use? Also, if I need to fill the opening with compressible material, will stuffing bits of old polystyrene packaging in be enough?

Thanks

Sounds like a NHBC detail. Since you should not use timber I would suggest a cement based board. The polystyrene really ought to be something like the insulation boards suitable in wet conditions. Packaging is not actually the same stuff and I think degrades in wet conditions.

Assuming I am correct in thinking this is a drain detail passing through your wall below ground level with a lintel over the square hole for the pipe.

Sorry yes, I meant below ground level.

Is this fibre cement board available at builders merchants? What should I ask for?

Jabfloor 70 edge strips ok for the compressible fill?

Thanks
