I'm curious as to why ring circuits are wired 1 socket to the next and then ending back at the CU.
I understand this splits the load, but lets say you had loads of sockets on one side of the house and then a long cable run to a couple on the other.
The one side will be overloaded if in full use, before the other?
Can you jump sockets say 1 to 3, 2 to 4, 3 to 5 and so one? Spreading the load further?

Yes; rings should be designed and installed to reduce significant point loads.

You would usually wire -1-3-5-7-9-8-6-4-2- if you had a long line of sockets.

An isolated socket is better wired as a spur.
