Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of rogues.

A family of rogue traders has been jailed for a total of 20 years for conning vulnerable homeowners out of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The Tomney family is believed to have made close to half a million pounds as a result of their crimes.

The father, twin sons and nephew, carried out shoddy and dangerous work on homes across England. Most of their customers were elderly or disabled.

In some cases, they left work incomplete as a way of "bouncing" people into paying more. Often they left property in a worse condition than before they had started.

It left homeowners having to raise even more money to have the shoddy work repaired.

One of the Tomneys' tricks was to pour milk on a driveway and fool the elderly customer into believing they had used an expensive chemical sealant.

But their exploits were uncovered after they filmed themselves laughing and joking about their own deceit.

In the video Frank Tomney junior, 22, is heard to say: "We're charging £800 for a bottle of milk!"

One of them even asked the owner of the house for a reference praising the quality of their work.

In another case, the conmen took a pensioners' life savings of £31,000 for driveway and patio work worth a fraction of the amount paid.

Twenty-nine-year-old Brian Tomney, of Salford, bought the house of a pensioner with Alzheimer's for £17,000 when the true value was £60,000.

He is said to have promised the 90-year-old woman that she could live in the house until her death but within weeks the gas and electricity had been cut off.

"Homes across England" .............Could they be travellers  . I reckon when the present old generation are gone - and it`s the likes of me and others here on the forum , are in our 80`s - you`ll start getting stories of rogues getting "escorted " off peoples property by pensioners with baseball bats  . Yeah, officer lock me up , I`m 85 and don`t give a shyte

" father, twin sons and nephew"

20 years total between the four of them?

when will they be out then?

I hate hearing about people who get taken advantage off especially when they don't have any money anyway.

Glad they have all been locked up. Hope there has been some recompense paid to the people they ripped off.

Digusting story!!

But made better because of the fact that these rogues got their comeuppance.

Dom Littlewood would love this - he is great at hunting down the cowboys, but I'm always confused how him chasing them down the street is a fair punishment. Sure, they get a bad rep but usually relocate and set up under a different name.

The sooner there is a law which protects customers by prosecuting the rogues with harsh penalties, the better it will be for everyone!

Now you know why the Dale Farm geezers were never on camera
