Roof access

I'm about to tackle the painting of woodwork and walls on the front of my house. The difficulty I have is with the section above the sloping roof. I can access one side with regular ladders, the other side with roof ladders but the section in the middle, between the windows, is problem.

Any thought on how to access this safely?

Through the windows.....lean out ........NOT joking...............if they are wooden........unscrew and replace after

Both are uPVC double glazed so not really that removable. One of them is for the stairwell and so doesn't even open - and I'd need to be standing on a ladder to lean out.

Just put a ladder up to the gutter of the roof and push up the second tile as far as it will go and then push up every other tile up the roof it will give you somewhere to put your feet and then the tiles will just pull back down when you have finished.
But don’t put your feet through the felt .

You can also walk on the tiles as long as you don’t stand in the middle of them

While you're up there, clean the gutter out front & back and anything else you need to do

It's sounds a lot but not if you're going to break your neck and a painter will charge more than the cost of hire anyway.

Shop around though, maybe there're cheaper one about

Thanks for the suggestions folks.

I've had a look at the tiles and they move up easily leaving the battons for walking on. I can get some scaffolding to give me good access to the roof (rather than climbing on by ladder) so it should be OK.

I Like the man lift - pity the single day hire costs are so high. If I was doing work all around the house then it would be more than worthwhile getting one for a week.

borrow a high top luton van, back it up to the garage then run some scaffold planks from the van to the roof.
