Hi, my roof (concrete tiles) are quite mossy and I was going to clean them with a wire brush or jet hose them. Thereafter I would like to paint/seal as appropriate - what should I use? i.e. what is the costing that I should apply and where can I get it?

I have had quotes from Aquashield and Aquaseal, but given the price and warnings about multiple companies that are then disolved rendering the warranty worthless, I figure I will do this myself.

Dont waste your time mate.Sure clean with a wire brush ,this will do no harm but not a preasure washer. The only way any coating could work would be to remove every single tile from the roof and then paint other wise the full tile is not covered. Now if your going to go to all that trouble you might as well just put new tiles on.Some people will say otherwise(usually the ones selling it) but roof coatings for tiles are a con, simple as.If it was any good i would be doing it my self,i mean c'mon there is no skill involved but im not doing it and neither are most roofers, ask yourself whiy is this?

oh it's like that is it? One mans meat !!! I have to comment on this thread, now, after all I don't make a single penny from roof coating or roofing. As the rest of the regulars I am just offering an alternative opinion rather than you having to rely on just one sided nepatism. Ask a butcher if being a vegitarian is best and then swap Butcher and veggy for a roofer then yourself. The GOVERNMENT (VAT OFFICE) has just granted a 5% VAT threashold for roof coating with the new thermal additives.... Hmmmmn ! have I said too much.

I have just returned from a well earned golf lesson in a very sunny country, (retirement, brilliant). Over there where the sun shines almost everyday (92degrees yesterday), and just about everyone has air-con, some enterprising chaps are cleaning up with the recent EU directive applying heat reflecive coatings to clay and even concrete, tiles and roofs, Reports of Savings of 15% off electric bills by reducing heat transfer from roof to interiors and therefore less use of air-con units....... who would have thought you can coat roof tiles???? What ever next.

Oh oh just opened an e-mail from a diynot viewer, how the ell e got my e-mail address I don't know yet.....

Harley If roof coating was any good i would be doing it and raking in the money but as i have a reputation to keep i will not touch it with a barge pole.I have a van, ladders, knowlage of roofing, the only thing stopping me doing roof coating is myself.Being a roofer i know it for what it is otherwsie id be out there doing it.I can remeber once on tomorrows world it showed you the future for roofing, foam sprayed to the underside of slates/tiles mmmm another false economy i steered well away from.

Just to repeat:

ROOF TILES DO NOT NEED PAINTING, WILL NEVER BENEFIT FROM PAINTING AND DO NOT AUTOMATICALLY BECOME POROUS WITH AGE.

Im convinced from now on i shall be known as cumbria roof painting specialist, distance no object,no job too big or small, leave the paper work to us and off course OAP DISCOUNT

Lol Harley when will you ever learn.

I see the rust dripping off the satellite dish has already turned the ***** paint white
