I have just moved to my end terraced house. I went into the loft today and saw holes in the roof. I saw some information saying that it could be normal for the holes to be there. Some of the holes seem to be about 1cm wide, is this normal. Should i 'patch' these holes up?
I am quite concerned with the weather getting a bit wet and windy.
Should i get a professional in to check it out? And does anybody know how much this should cost in the midlands?

The roof is a slate roof.
I hope someone can help.
Look forward to hearing from you

who gave you the info Anna the bloke who sold you the house ???

Almost certainly just the sunlight getting through the tiny gaps of the slates and with there being no felt this is why they are so obvious, nothing at all to worry about just so long as the slates are in good order, have a look outside at the roof covering, use a pair of binoculars if you can and look for any missing or slipped slates and if there are any then have them fixed, if not then you have no worries, all slate roofs without underfelt have chinks of light showing.
Hey wickerman where abouts are you in ireland :!:

Just down the road in Castlebar... the mrs works in Westport ..have you the green and red flying half mast after yesterdays demolition in the All Ireland.
Are you ex-pat like me or a native?

Better not reveal the old gals place of work as shes a bit sensitive on that kind of thing, if you are between the two towns alot you may well have seen my van floating around as well, a blue transit with Michael Robinson Building Contractor on the side, dont understand the gaelic football myself but would have been nice to see them win. Would you be the guy who had done industrial roofing in England and moved here a couple of years back, Londoner if I remember, if so I think we met in Rockies watching the football one saturday afternoon.

hiya
thanks for that info. so small holes mean nothing. i just scared myself? so very typical. I didnt see any slates coming off the roof, but then i havent had a very good look as i dont have a ladder tall enough.

Would the bricks in the loft with loads of white fluff be normal? some of them are also crumbling away. should i treat them? If so how? could the daylight holes be causing this?
still scared of my roof being knackered  apologies for all the questions

whoops i dint answer your questions.

the holes can be seen during the day (that the same as daylight holes?)

and the info came from a website, cant remember which one, maybe even from this one.

That is normal and as long the roof is not leaking.
