roof insulation

I live in an old house (1890) and need to insulate the loft - I have been quoted £400 for rockwool or £1800 for sheeps wool. Given I have kids and want to avoid toxic stuff if possible, but don't want to remortgage, does anyone have any other suggestions.

I see your from sussex like myself, I would give your local council a call as they offer grants to all home oners and private tennents 70% off installation prices and as an example they are going to do mine loft for £100
