Hi, we're having a roof lantern fitted in our new flat roof extension. The roof construction is like in this pic (just off the internet) although we only have the timber frame so far.

just wondering how is the upstand insulated? or is the upstand going to be a thermal bridge. Just slightly concerned given that we're insulating everything really well and have chosen the high performance glass for the lantern!
Just looking for a second opinion before I discuss with the builder
Cheers!

The timber upstand frame should be insulated, you can insulate between the timber studs and possibly on the inside too, but you should be able to have some insulation on the outside too, which should prevent any cold bridges.

Most manufacturers have detail drawings and will show a nominal bit of insulation between the studs (as above) but this can be bolstered with some on the outside etc. It just needs to be thought about.
