Hi there, we’ve just had our house re-roofed and the membrane is visible under the roof. There was mortar bonded to the original tiles but this has fallen away. How would you recommend dealing with this?

There should be an under cloak.
it could have been slates or a cement board.
You'd have to remove the end few lines of slates now to reinstall the under cloak.

Get them back to finish it off properly .
A normal under cloak won't span that gap.
I'm guessing it was timber lathe originally .
Easiest now would be timber ,

Thanks - is finishing off in timber a big job? Scaffolding has gone now so would have to be done on ladders?

And is there any reason you wouldn’t do it?

If you imagine the effect of feather edge fencing and inset slightly, that may replicate the verge and the underside of tiles, and be better looking than flat timber.

What ever is done, wil probably need at least a tower scaffold.

At this point I would screw a length of rough sawn 4x1 timber to the batons and then paint it with black bitumen paint, it should go with the style of the building.
