use galv clouts for the lathes or battens and the same for the felt.

we tap the nail in so far then clench it over as it grips the felt better in windy conditions.

some roofers use a staple gun to tack the felt.

As noseall said, you can use galvanised or copper clout nails but we tend to use the hammer tacker or a heavy duty staple gun.IMHO the hammer tacker is a lot quicker but i suppose it all comes down to personal preference. We put 4 fixings into the first corner of the felt, this helps to keep the felt held firmly in position whilst rolling the felt out......always start felting from the bottom working upto the ridge ;)

Well what ever you use guys please donat fall through the ceiling like i did....ouch, night in the hospital, x-rays etc very painfull, blacked out and dont remember anything about falling through or how i got to the hospital.

When I did felt roofing I used copper nails to hold it down then used hot tar with a mop from the kettle 4 Ply 15 LB felt
