hi folks, was looking for some help,my neighbours roof and mine are joined,ie all one unit, today he got a roofing firm in and took up the middle tiles and put in some kind of silver alloy joint down the middle and then put the tiles back down, they also flashed the chimney.
I remember him saying before he had a problem with damp.
I would have thought that one whole unit would be more secure/water proof, rather than putting an joint in the middle.
any thoughts please.
cheers

That's a fibreglass bonding strip for sealing two different types of tiles, not the same ones.

Your neighbour had probably been visited by cowboys, not roofers. That strip is doing nothing that the tiles were not doing.

It looks as though there is a major difference in roof levels . there is no way the original tiles sat correctly assuming they did actually inter lock? one thing that is strange the RH roof end tile buts the GRP as a full tile. the LH appears to be cut on a taper bottom to top.
I should think there is a slight possibility the rain on the RH side of the up stand could be tipped towards the edge of the bonding strip ( its obviously been distorted) in time with build up of crud will dam up and spill over the water checks and onto the under lay in there is any.

had a roofer friend take a look and says it the norm nowadays, eek, seems ok as kept a close eye on it during the heavy rain and windy night, nothing getting inside and tiles seem to be sitting ok.
thanks
will be keeping a close eye on it,still not happy as to why he would split an single unit ,must just be a sipleton

Well its not the normal thing to do! thats a dry valley not a bonding gutter and
only a moron would put something in that is superfluous.
