We had our house rewired in August and during this we replaced the old room thermostat with a Honeywell DT90E and also moved it from the lounge to the downstairs hall. Moving it was suggested as the original position was opposite a working real fireplace.

In the hall we made sure it was not near a radiator etc but it is on an inner wall (as it was before). We didn't notice at the time but the room temp always reads 23 or 24. Now that it's cold we want the heating on sometimes but we have to set the heating to come on at this high temp in order to heat the house.

Do you think this is thermostat error (as we'd have to get electrician out to rewire new one) or something else please?

Buy a thermometer and put it near the thermostat.

Do they both show the same temperature?

If they do, you know that the thermostat is located in a warm spot. The DT90E is a wired stat, so moving will probably be difficult. Fortunately that shouldn't be necessary as the DT90E has a 'temperature offset' feature. This allows you to make the stat show a different temperature. So it can show 21C, even if the actual temperature is, say, 23 or 24.

Hopefully you still have the instructions for the DT90E. You need to change Parameter tO.
