Concrete would prob work but you would need to make sure you are deep enough to avoid them going under. The other fabric stuff would be sh1t as the roots are so strong they will go through it. They threaten foundations so thats how god awful they are. (Mind you they would prob get through your conc. after a time)

Cut the bleeder down!!

if it's that near it should go. It'll destore the house in no time as they grow mad.

I wouldn't make any attempt to keep it as there are plenty of shrubs, climbers and even trees that won't do the damage that willow does. If you try to keep it you'll regret it.

If you like the tree take some cuttings next feb or march, put in water for a couple of weeks they shove into the ground well away from the house. Plant a dozen and some will soon grow then you thin them out in a couple of years time.
Willow really is not the tree to have anywhere near a house. 15 or 20 metres is still a potential problem.

I would tend to agree but it is always sad to see a tree go when its spent so long growing to the size it obviously has

Thanks folks.........won`t wast money on Fabric then. Next job I get for a mini digger..... ;)

Root walls are well known solutions to the problem. If it isn't causing a problem I would leave it. If you dig it up you may well get a problem known as 'heave' if you are in clay soil. This is where the dry ground (courtesy of the willow) absorbs moisture and swells - and cracks your house.

If it aint broke - don't fix it.
