Burying alive is a part of the indigenous culture. There is a video on you tube where amazonian villagers bury two young children alive because there is noone in the village to care for them. Their parents died.
The villagers are obviously upset by the events but know it is better for the community.

....and lynching is local justice due to a lack of police resources in rural areas.
Perhaps you would prefer the villagers had built a jail so they could house him and feed him for free for the next 70 years while they all worked their asses off to fund it.
