We are renovating and extending a house at the moment. It is a sixties house which had some cedar cladding on the front elevation which has just been removed.
It has always been our intention to render this section of the house where the wood was removed. We were pleased to find brickwork underneath (had expected blockwork) but the bricks are of inferior quality/finish to the rest of the house, so rendering is definitely the plan.
Our builder is suggesting we use Tyrolean render and has sent us to look at another house he is extending that's just had the Tyrolean done. I like the look of this finish on close inspection but think it looks 'patchy' when viewed from further away.
Our house has a long driveway and the front is always viewed from a 'distance' as a result. It is also north facing and we live in the north west, which is obvioulsy renowned for being a damp climate!
What are the advantages/disadvantages of both types for our house? Can the Tyrolean be painted to make it appear more even? Is it normal fr it to look patchy (as though the plaster underneath is showing through)?
Thanks
