Hi, could anyone tell me what benefits you get with a spindle moulder over a router table with a decent router in it. They both seem to do the same thing with the router cutters being alot cheaper. Thanks
You will generally get a better finish with a spindle due to the larger rotating diameter. You can remove far more material in one pass than you could with a high wattage router. The induction motors are much quieter in use and the dust extraction is better. Easy height adjustment by turning a wheel no reaching under the table for an add-on fine height adjuster.
Cutters are cheaper in the long run, once you have the block a set of knives will cost £8-10 and if you are handfeeding then a matched pair of limiters £6-8. Also cheaper if you want a set of custom knives to match an existing profile.
